Golf Scrapbook

The Golf Scrapbook blog/site is an online recap of my goal of playing 1,000 golf courses before I hang them up. The site includes golf course rankings, musings, photos and descriptions of some of the great (and not so great) golf courses I’ve been able to play.

The idea started when my wife started an old-fashioned scrapbook of our memories many moons ago, so I thought why not a digital golf course scrapbook. I took pictures and have been laying out the scrapbook when a friend suggested that I create a blog.

The blog section is a course review from my perspective as a bogey golfer who is “the worst golfer to ever play some of the nicest golf courses in the world.” It was really in about 2024 (when I retired early) that I decided to try and play 1,000 courses. At that time I had already played about 700 and figured if I average 25 new courses a year, I’d hit my goal by age 70. I provide more detail of this journey – both past and present – here. The link below is a state-by-state and country-by-country alphabetical listing of the courses where I do a course write-up, a review of the area or resort as a golf trip destination, and whatever else is in my head at that time.

The scrapbook includes photos, routings and a very general write-up of the course (usually from the course’s website). I laid out the pages for a scrapbook feel. These are in years so if you see something in the write up and want to go to the scrapbook and find the corresponding year. Before 2010 I just had these as pages so I put the links in the write-ups. I added an alphabetical listing below the PDF’s in this section.

I also added my own golf course rankings with my ranking criteria so to get started here is my oh so humble top golf course rankings.

Golf Course Blog

Photos, Super Brief Write-ups and Whatnot

This is kind of the blog part of the site. Unlike other blogs, I am sure you could care less about how or how well I played each hole. I also don’t have the energy or memory to give each a hole a thorough review. I posted my photos (and for courses played before 2010 I had to actually bring a camera and rarely did), and either my thoughts or recollections about the course or some other quirky story about it.

From Top Row (l to r): Cal Club, Pelican Hill, Coronado, Merion, Pine Valley, TPC Tampa, Pine Valley again. Sugarbush, Streamsong, Tobacco Road, and Winged Foot

The Scrapbook

I always say, “I’m the worst golfer to ever play some of the nicest courses ever.” I’m not a golf magazine ratings guy. I’m not rich. I’m not a professional photographer. I’m not on some quest to play all of the world’s top 100 courses (though would love an invite to America’s and the world’s best if you’re so willing). I am a bogey golfer. I enjoy playing different courses. I took a lot of photos. I like Miller Lite. And below is access to the scrapbook. Keep in mind, before camera phones I borrowed photos off the internet. If you see one of yours and want credit just contact me. If you don’t want me to use it. Just contact me. I’ll take it down.
